DISCOVER ELBA ISLAND

Discover what to visit during your holiday on Elba Island!

Elba is a paradise for lovers of nature, tranquillity and the sea.
The island is part of the Tuscan Archipelago and, in addition to its beaches and lush vegetation, it is also famous for having hosted the banished Napoleon Bonaparte.
During your holiday at the Elbadoc Camping Village, you will be able to explore and get to know this magical territory at its best, with postcard-perfect beaches and verdant nature.

Elbadoc is located in Cavo, on the eastern side of Elba Island, the least touristy but richest in beaches, trails, museums and historical attractions. Less nightlife and more nature!

Cavo and the beaches of the Coast that sparkles

In Cavo you will find a small, picturesque harbour, as well as restaurants where you can get a taste of Elba's delicacies and enjoy the island's aromas. It is pleasant to walk along the promenade Vespucci, which leads to the promontory of Capo Castello where there are the ruins of an ancient Roman villa as well. From the village you can take a stroll through the refreshing pine forest to the Tonietti Chapel, of neo-Gothic origin, where you can enjoy the panoramic view of the Gulf of Cavo and relax in the clearing equipped for picnics.
In Cavo and in the surrounding area you will find many fun activities: sailing school, diving, snorkelling and rubber dinghy and scooter rental. Thanks to its location on the extreme north-eastern tip, you can quickly reach beaches with different exposures from Cavo, so you can enjoy the sea in any weather and wind conditions.
Cavo's beaches are pebbly and sandy, with a sandy seabed, ideal for children. All the beaches are free with umbrella and deckchair hire, pedalos and canoes at the service of bathers. The nearest beach is San Bennato, consisting of soft sand and a gently sloping seabed. After the pier there is the long Cavo beach made up of pebbles and sand in the last stretch known as "lo Chalet". Following the seafront after the last climb, you reach Cala Frugoso, which has a car park for a fee and a kiosk with a panoramic view for a snack with a view of the sea. From here, you reach a real natural jewel, the wonderful Cala delle Alghe.

The Beaches

FORNACELLE (2 km)
A cove of sand and white stones that can be reached from the provincial road SP26 with a small, steep descent (signposted). Parking and a restaurant serving fish and local specialities with a terrace overlooking the sea.

CALA SEREGOLA (4 km)
Cala Seregola is listed as 'Best Beach'; beautiful large sandy beach with a bar. To the side of the beach are the warehouses of the former mining area and you can catch a glimpse the old loading dock. Reachable by car all the way down. There is also a large free car park.

TOPINETTI (6 km)
Proceeding towards Rio Marina, 6 km away, you will find the black sandy beach composed of hematite and pyrite, contrasting with the light-coloured stones. There is ample free parking and a kiosk.

MARINA DI GENNARO and LUISI D’ANGELO
They can only be reached by stairs and short paths, not for everyone. Gravel and rocks, maximum tranquillity!
ORTANO
White sandy beach, equipped, with lateral rocks and a small island: ideal for snorkelling. After passing the centre of Rio Marina, there is a signposted left-hand turn. A free car park is available before the entrance to the holiday village and you then continue on foot for 200 metres.

CALA MANDRIAOLA
This west-facing beach consists of tufa rocks (we recommend wearing shoes). It can be reached after a suggestive walk through the scrubland, a small effort that will be rewarded by a spectacular view in total peace and quiet.

NISPORTINO
Accessible by car and with free parking, this beach is perfect for snorkelling enthusiasts. The beach is equipped with sun lounger and umbrella rentals and a beach pizzeria. The hour of sunset over the sea is not to be missed.

If these beaches are not enough for you, you should request the Guide to the Beaches of Elba from the Reception desk and download the ELBA BEACH APP, it is very useful!

The Mineral Park and Archaeological Museum in Rio nell'Elba

If you want to learn about the ancient history of our territory, you can visit the Mineral Park in Rio and the Archaeological Museum in Rio nell'Elba. The museum preserves ancient materials related to the mineral deposits and the life of the miners, as well as Aeneolithic grave goods.
It is possible to take guided excursions through the Rio Mining Park, either by mini train or by jeep.
The guides will take you on a discovery of the mines amidst the exciting lunar landscapes to the Valle Giove site, the largest of Elba's mines, where you can try your hand at extracting samples of pyrite and hematite with a pickaxe for conservation. A hat and sweatshirt to protect you from the sun and wind are a must!

Botanical Garden, Torre del Giove, Educational Farm

At the Botanical Garden of the Simplici at the Hermitage of Santa Caterina, you can discover the island's rich natural heritage of wild, rare or endemic plants and cultivated fruit species.
Divided into ten gardens separated by tufa stones, it houses Mediterranean maquis plants such as myrtle and lentisk, vine species such as Aleatico and a rich variety of fruit trees. However, there is more!
From the village of Rio nell'Elba you can walk to the Torre del Giove, a panoramic viewpoint over the sea and the Riesi Mines, from which they communicated remotely with the Volterraio Castle, which stands on the hill opposite.
For an educational day out for children, we recommend the Educational Farm at Lacona, workshops to discover ancient crafts and farmyard animals!

Sport and adventure at sea

There are many sporting opportunities during a holiday on Elba. From sailing courses to boat trips, it would be a shame not to take advantage of the beauty of the island.
Here are some of the possible activities:
  • Sailing courses in Cavo with Scuola Utopia: ask about weekly courses or sailing trials!
  • Boat trips on a vintage sailing boat
  • Snorkelling in Cavo, with instructors, even for beginners
  • Hire of dinghies and jet skis from San Bennato beach
  • Excursions by kayak
  • Guided MTB tours along the old mining routes of Rio, passing through kenyons and quarries overlooking the sea, through landscapes that look like Mars and offer unforgettable views.
