Cavo and around

Cavo is an up and coming tourist harbour on the island of Elba. We will be delighted to help you discover the pearls of the Elban East cost, rich in beaches, treks, mines, museums and historical attractions, while being the least touristy part of Elba. You will find the real essence of Elba! Cavo is an ideal family holiday destination, quiet and far away from the summertime frenzy of more famous places.

Here you can find both pebble and sandy beaches, with a sandy seabed, ideal for children. All beaches are free but there are also beach umbrellas and sun chairs for hire. You can also rent paddle boats and canoes.

There are also typical Elban rocky coves, which are famous for their marvelous seabeds, for example Cala delle Alghe. Since Cavo is situated at the most North-Easterly point of Elba, you can quickly reach beaches with different aspects, so that you can enjoy the sea regardless of the weather and wind on the various sides of the island.

In Cavo village you will find a small and suggestive port and many restaurants where you can taste Elba’s delicacies and enjoy the fragrances of the island. It’s also nice to stroll along the seaside walk called “lungomare Vespucci”, which leads to the headland of Capo Castello, where you can find the ruins of an ancient Roman villa. Leaving the village, a lovely walk through cool pinewoods brings you to the neo-gothic Cappella Tonietti, where you can enjoy the views over the Gulf of Cavo and relax in a delightful clearing with picnic facilities.

In and around Cavo you can find many fun activities such as sailing school, diving, snorkeling and boat or scooter hire.

Mineral Park and Archaeological museum discover the mining history of the “Sparkling coast” rich in minerals (hematite, pyrite and iron) which give the sand its golden, reddish or black sparkle!

In the village of CAVO you will find a baker’s, butcher’s and greengrocer’s, a small supermarket, various shops and newsagents, bank, post office, pharmacy and nautical club. 0 KM fresh vegetables and fruit just 200 meters from the campsite you can buy freshly harvested produce directly from Millo the farmer!

Near Cavo you can enjoy LOCAL WINE TASTING, try ALEATICO a sweet dessert wine from Elba.

The Botanical Gardens (Orto botanico dei semplici) near Saint Catherine’s hermitage (Eremo di Santa Caterina) are well worth a visit to discover the wealth of wild, native, or rare plants and fruit trees of Elba. You can walk to the Giove Tower (Torre del Giove), for a spectacular view of the sea and the Rio Marina mines. The tower was used to communicate with the Volterraio Castle (Castello del Volterraio), on the hill opposite.
